We're looking back at some of our favourite Other Voices + Ireland's Edge moments with the extraordinary duo

Rhiannon Giddens + Francesco Turrisi in Dingle, by Rich Gilligan

We're absolutely over the moon to learn that past Other Voices performers Rhiannon Giddens and Francesco Turrisi have taken home Best Folk Album for the extraordinary 'They're Calling Me Home' at this year's Grammy Awards.

Recorded at the Hellfire studios in Dublin during the depths of lockdown, the record speaks of the longing for the comfort of home as well as the metaphorical “call home” of death.

Two weeks after it was released to rave reviews, Rhiannon and Francesco joined us for an magnificent livestream from Whelan's in Dublin as part of the first series of Courage in April 2020. It was an honour for us and the global audience who tuned in to watch these songs performed live for the first time.

Later that year the acclaimed duo returned to the Other Voices stage with another masterclass in musicianship this time from The Church of St James in Dingle, West Kerry. You can see highlights from that unforgettable performance below.

During that weekend in December 2020, Rhiannon spoke to music journalist Jim Carroll as part of Ireland's Edge about race, influence and appropriation of African-American music, and cross-cultural collaboration all through the story of the banjo in the United States.

You can listen to Rhiannon + Jim's discussion in podcast format on Ireland's Edge - The Podcast series below.
