The Rapture

Formed in 1998, New York-based quartet The Rapture found themselves as a band of the moment when their single 'House of Jealous Lovers' was re-released to acclaim in 2003. One of those tracks which would've graced a New York club in any of the past four decades, it saw the quartet of Luke Jenner (vocals/guitar), Matty Safer (bass), Gabriel Andruzzi (various instruments) and Vito Roccoforte (drums) being plucked from relative obscurity to the top of hype mountain. But unlike many outfits with one great song and a first album full of fillers, The Rapture's debut 'Echoes' showed that 'House of Jealous Lovers' was no fluke - tracks like 'Olio' and 'I Need Your Love' proved the band had the staying power to outmanoeuvre a fickle media. In 2006 The Rapture released their second album, 'Pieces of the People We Love', and once again hit pay dirt with instantly memorable songs like 'Get Myself Into It', 'Don Gon Do It' and the title track - all of which, like 'House of Jealous Lovers', have that timeless quality. Working with Paul Epworth (Bloc Party, Futureheads) and Ewan Pearson (mixer for Chemical Brothers, Depeche Mode and Gwen Stefani - on production duties for the first time) in Manhattan, and then Gnarls Barkley star Danger Mouse in LA, the album further reveals the depths to the band's sound and their talents as players. Their third album now can't come soon enough.
