Other Voices Returns to Arranmore for Féile Róise Rua 2022

March 22, 2022

We're teaming up with the amazing Féile Róise Rua cruí for an amazing night of live music from the historic Early's Bar on Árainn Mhór Island.

We're so excited to share that this May we're heading back to beautiful Árainn Mhór Island for Féile Róise Rua 2022!

This year's festival takes place from 20-22 May, with a very special livestream beamed from the Island on Thursday 19 May at 8pm.

Hosted by Ye Vagabond's Brían Macgloinn and pioneering trad artists Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, this year’s livestream will include exclusive performances from some of Ireland’s finest artists including Mairéad Mhaonaigh, Helen Diamond, Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill, Jimmy Canavan, Saileog Ní Cheannabháin, Seosamh O Neachtain and more.

Together with Féile Róise Rua, we'll be collapsing distance to bring you to Early’s Bar, a historic music pub on the Island which has been known for its music and singing for generations.

The livestream will feel like you're in the middle of an intimate music session with these guests as they sing, play and interact with the audience - you'll have the best seat in the house no matter where you are in the world!

It's just a delight  for all of us at Other Voices to be  partnering with Féile Róise Rua and to help bring a glimpse of this magical place to the world. As John Berger says “Songs can express the inner experience of being and becoming” and at Féile Róise Rua on Arranmore Island with songs and singing, tradition, translation and transmission at the heart of the festival, that’s exactly what happens.' Philip King, founder of Other Voices

Féile Róise Rua was set up in 2018 as a voluntary community based festival to revive the local music and song tradition on the island, in particular the music of local singer and song collector Róise Rua.

As part of the livestream the Féile Róise Rua community also hope to raise money for the local community centre which is central to life on the island, as well as for Gemma’s Legacy for Hope - a charity supporting mental health services in north-west Donegal. You can donate via the Go Fund Me page here.

‘While the past two years left us with a vacuum of live music on the island, we were so lucky to find an opportunity for connection with people all over the world through our collaboration with Other Voices. We’re hugely excited now to welcome visitors back to the island this May, while also inviting people from across the globe to join our live stream session again on Thursday the 19th of May.’ Brían Mac Gloinn of Ye Vagabonds and a member of the Féile Róise Rua team

It will be broadcast live via Féile Róise Rua and Other Voices on Facebook, Twitter & YouTube on 19th May at 8pm.
