ON THE SHOW THIS WEEK: MUMFORD & SONS

February 7, 2017

Thursday 9th February RTE 2 | 23.30

“I’ve been a fan of Other Voices for a while and we've just never been able to make it happen until we’re in Austin, Texas. A lot of people think we’re either Irish or American, so tonight we’re making that dream come true” - Marcus Mumford.

This Thursday, Mumford & Sons make their long-awaited Other Voices debut. Filmed in Arlyn Studios in Austin, they treated us to a superb set from their platinum-selling third album 'Wilder Mind'. To celebrate their appearence on this week's show, we've decided to look back at some of their career highlights to date, picking out some of their best live performances over the years.

LIttle Lion Man

Mumford & Sons - Little Lion Man (Live On Letterman)

Little Lion Man was the opening track of Mumford & Sons debut EP 'Love Your Ground', released back in November 2008. The memorable harmonies, rapid-fire banjo picking and expletive chorus pricked up ears upon its release, becoming a sing-a-long staple of their live set. Here they are with a rousing rendition performed for The David Letterman show in 2012.

The Cave

Mumford & Sons - The Cave (VEVO Presents: Live at the Lewes Stopover 2013)

The Cave was the third single from Mumford & Sons debut album 'Sigh No More'. Released in 2009, the album has gone on to sell over six million copies in the US alone, while The Cave was nominated for four Grammy's in 2012, including song of the year and record of the year. This phenomenal live performance was filmed at their 2013 'Gentlemen Of The Road' festival, which took place in Lewes, Stopover in England.

I Will Wait

Mumford & Sons - I Will Wait (Live from the Artists Den) ft. Mumford & Sons

Proving they were no one album wonder, Mumford & Sons returned with a hugely successful sophomore record Babel, released in 2012. Named by Rolling Stone as the 13th best song of the year, lead single 'I Will Wait' went on to be Mumford & Sons biggest hit to date, topping the Billboard Hot 100 upon release. This anthemic performance was captured in The Belasco Theatre in Los Angeles in front of an intimate crowd.

Believe

Mumford & Sons - Believe (Performed on Live From South Africa: Dust And Thunder)

Abandoning the banjos and waistcoats, Mumford & Sons take a sharp left turn with third album 'Wilder Mind'. Plugging in and showcasing their electric side, the group have made their most musically diverse and ambitious record to date. Upon its release the album charted at number one in seven countries, with the single 'Believe' becoming a firm fan-favourite. This performance was recorded in the outback of South Africa during the band's 'Dust And Thunder' tour of 2016.

Help From My Friends (Beatles Cover)

Mumford and Sons - Help From My Friends at Glastonbury 2013

A band that's always been fond of a big singalong with their musical mates, Mumford & Sons headlined the legendary Glastonbury festival in 2013. Here they are closing their set with help from The Vaccines, The Staves and Ezra Koening from Vampire Weekend.

Don't miss them on Other Voices this Thursday 9th February on RTE 2 at 23.30, repeated Sunday 11th February on RTE 2 at 12.00.
