Speech Debelle

Twenty six year old South Londoner Corynne Elliot (AKA Speech Debelle) has been through the mill both before and since she started working on this set of recordings. The oldest song on her debut album Speech Therapy is called 'Finish This Album?'. It was the tune she first played when she visited Big Dada record label at the start of 2005. It was here she was introduced to her producer Wayne Lotek. As well as his own Lotek Hi-Fi project, Wayne has produced for Roots Manuva. In November 2007 she was officially signed to Big Dada. Debelle's debut album, Speech Therapy, was released in May 2009. Since the release of Speech Therapy, slow burn has turned into forest fire, with a storm of critical acclaim culminating in her winning the internationally renowned Mercury Music Prize. Her debut record sounds like no hip hop record has sounded before. Its sonic palette is informed by the intimacy of her thought and the fragility of her voice. Speech Debelle announced in October that she had begun writing new material for her next album, called 'The Art Of Speech'.
