Laura Mvula

Newcomer, classically trained singer-songwriter and 2013 BRITs Critics’ Choice Award nominee Laura Mvula released her highly anticipated debut album Sing To The Moon on 4 March 2013. Described as “The voice of 2013” by The Evening Standard, the classically trained, singer-songwriter’s music fuses orchestral soul with velvety harmonies and emotional vocals giving nods to Nina Simone, George Gershwin and Björk amongst others. A graduate from the Birmingham Conservatoire with a degree in composition, the 26-year-old is a unique collison of her Caribbean background and formal music. Laura started writing songs on her laptop while working as a supply teacher in a Birmingham secondary school. Now, with some incredible live performances and a praised EP (‘She’ released 18th November) under her belt, 2013 looks set to be an incredible year for her.
