Joan As Policewoman

Named after the 1970s TV series 'Police Woman' starring Angie Dickinson as an undercover cop, Joan as Policewoman is the solo project of violinist and singer-songwriter Joan Wasser. A long-time Rufus Wainwright and Antony and the Johnsons friend and collaborator, Wasser recently stepped into the limelight with her own stunning debut album, 'Real Life'.Some influences of past work are evident - her resume includes live performances and studio work with Scissor Sisters, Lou Reed, Nick Cave, Sheryl Crow, Sparklehorse and Depeche Mode's David Gahan - but 'Real Life' is her own very unique work as Wasser leads her trio on guitar and wurlitzer accompanied by Rainy Orteca on bass and Ben Perowsky on drums.Credited with changing the profile of the violin in rock music, she is now extending her innovative strength to singing and songwriting. Her voice and delivery has raised comparisons with Nina Simone, Dusty Springfield, Prince and Chrissie Hynde. Defying easy classification, as Wasser sings on 'The Ride', "starting now, the wait is over".
