Cold Specks is 23-year-old Al Spx from Etobicoke, Canada. Her sound is utterly enthralling, steeped in the musical traditions of the Deep South, it is best described as ?Doom Soul?. With a voice that evokes the ?spirit feel? of Mahalia Jackson and the visceral tones of Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Cold Specks? sparse arrangements and chain-gang rhythms stop you dead in your tracks. Cold Specks released her debut single ?Holland? on October 17th 2011. Recorded at Monnow Valley Studios and mixed at Sub Bubble, the single features tracks ?Holland? and ?Old Stepstone?. She has just spent the past month playing main support to Howling Bells on their UK tour.
