Young Fathers formed in Edinburgh in 2008, framing themselves as a "psychedelic hip hop boy band". The trio has developed a reputation for making a unique blend of music utilising diverse influences, which reflect their backgrounds. Alloysious Massaquoi is originally from Liberia, Kayus Bankole has Nigerian parents and 'G' Hastings is from the Drylaw "scheme" in north Edinburgh. The NME dubbed the band as "locked somewhere between De La Soul and 3T, but re-imagined for the hipster generation."On 29 October 2014, they won the prestigious 2014 Barclaycard Mercury Music Prize for their debut album Dead.
