OTHER VOICES 8 – ACCLAIMED MUSIC SERIES RETURNS
January 19 2010 – South Wind Blows have announced that the eighth series of acclaimed music programme Other Voices will begin its weekly broadcast on RTÉ Two from Wednesday February 3rd. The recordings for this year’s series took place in St. James’ Church in Dingle, Co. Kerry in early December and those lucky enough to bag a much coveted ticket were treated to a myriad of intimate performances from some of the biggest names in music including Snow Patrol, , The xx, Richard Hawley, Suede front man Brett Anderson, Mercury Music prize winner Speech Debelle, Temper Trap and Imelda May.
Other Voices presenter Annie Mac caught up with all the artists over the week long recording, with interviews filmed in the most unusual places, including Brooklyn boys The Antlers at the Celtic Prehistoric Museum in front of a giant mammoths head and a special acoustic performance from Florence and the Machine in a cottage at the most westerly tip of the Dingle peninsula.
In sourcing additional funding to ensure the longevity of the Other Voices series, South Wind Blows engaged in imaginative, boundary breaking partnerships with a number of forward thinking organisations including Fáilte Ireland, Intune Networks, IMRO, RTE and Microsoft. It is a coming together of culture and commerce that is emblematic of how economics and the arts can forge mutually beneficial affiliations, thus ensuring the continued growth and development of Ireland’s cultural essence. Uniting culture and technology, Irish innovators Intune Networks, unveiled their new groundbreaking high definition mass broadcast technology at the Snow Patrol performance in Dingle. Failte Ireland recognized the far reaching opportunity of the Other Voices recordings to showcase Dingle and the West of Ireland as an emerging cultural destination abroad. In keeping with Other Voices long and fine tradition of nurturing the best in emerging Irish music, a full day’s recording in Dingle was dedicated to new Irish artists. The Other Voices Other Room was this year partnered by the Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO). Each programme will feature a new Irish artist, recorded in The IMRO Other Room including Valerie Francis, 202s, The Chakras, O Emperor, James Vincent McMorrow and Low Mountain.
The TV broadcasts will run over six weeks on RTÉ Two, each Wednesday from 11.20pm, commencing with exclusive live sessions and interviews with Snow Patrol, Speech Debelle and Adrian Crowley. The IMRO Other Room act of the week will be Low Mountain.
