COGAR II
Cogar i leith chúm / Listen to me now
Cogar is a collection of lyrics, raps and poems, presented in collaboration with Other Voices. Following on from a series of music video premieres as part of Other Voices Dingle 2020, this online exhibition encompasses poems and lyrics that are both printed with Ponc Press letterpress and handwritten. The exhibition also showcases the artworks in the form of monotone illustrations and painted images that arose in response to these printed and handwritten works.
This multilingual collection of artworks is rooted mostly in Irish, with some translations in English and features a song in Welsh.
There will be a limited edition of the printed book available to pre-order directly from Ponc Press, with fifty per cent of proceeds going to Simon Community and Pieta House.
If you enjoy the exhibition please consider donating to Pieta House (http://bit.ly/3tozALa) or Simon Comminity (http://bit.ly/3ti519R).

An Scéal / The Story
The story began during the Other Voices Music Trail in 2019.
"I asked artists to send me their words and images. A manuscript arrived in a Spar bag, coffee-stained, made during an all-nighter and buzzing with energy. Lyrics depicted in a mother's nostalgic calligraphy, carefully decorated with her children's crayons and hands. The inbox filled with creations all zipped up on PDF. Music heroes, a secret music fairy, raps from the heart, and poems about the pilgrimage to Dingle. We put together the book COGAR, a collection of art, lyrics, raps and poems and it is available as a limited edition by preorder from Ponc Press here: http://poncpress.ie or email printing@poncpress.ie.

Thosaigh an eachtra le taispeántas a cuireadh ar bun do Fhéile Ceoil Other Voices i 2019.
"D'iarraíos ar dhaoine a gcuid focal a sheoladh chugam. Tháinig lámhscríbhinn i mála Spar, í salaithe ag caifé agus í déanta le linn oíche ragairne. Líon an t-inbox le cruthúcháin ar PDF, iad zipeáilte go béal. Mhaisigh leanaí póstaeir go cáiréiseach le criáin agus le peannaireachta a máthair ar bhord na cistine.
Tá rogha saothar againn anso a deineadh go speisialta do litirphreas. Tá laochra ceoil ann agus tá sióg ceoil rúndiamhair ann. Feictear na laochra so taobh le rapanna a thagann ón gcroí amach agus le dánta mar gheall ar an oilithreacht go dtí an Daingean."

Thosnaíomar ag déanamh na scannáin seo nuair nach rabhamar ábalta imeachtaí beo a bheith againn.
When lockdown began and we could no longer have physical COGAR events, we started to produce artist led videos with Collective Films. It brought the project to a whole new and exciting level.

"A huge thanks to Aine and the Other Voices crew for asking me to work on this project. I am always seeking new challenges and this has definitely been something, unlike anything I have worked on before. Seamus is fantastic to work with and I’m excited for everyone not just to hear this track, but more tracks to come from us. Having collaborated with artists all over Ireland for many years this is something totally refreshing and new to me. I’m thankful that we can still make ourselves heard from home."

"Buíochas ollmhór le Aine agus le foireann Other Voices as iarraidh orm obair ar an tionscadal seo. Bím i gcónaí ag lorg dúshláin nua agus níor oibrigh mé ar aon rud cosúil leis an tionscnamh seo cheanna. Tá sé go hiontach bheith ag obair le Séamus agus tá mé ar bís anois toisc go gcloisfidh gach éinne an rian seo. Chomhoibrigh mé le healaíontóirí ar fud na hÉireann le blianta fada ach is rud nua agus spreagúil é seo domsa. Táim buíoch gur féidir linn bheith ag obair ón mbaile agus gur féidir le daoine muid a chlos fós!"

A message from the curator Áine Ní Chíobháin
"Throughout this project a contrast between new versus old, and digital technology versus the penmanship of ancient manuscripts is apparent. Artists gently nod to the era of letterpress on the beautiful 1956 Heidelberg Platen Press while contemporary lyrics poke fun at Instagram, search engines and Twitterati.
It was an absolute joy to work on this project. It brought us hope to be able to make things together in lockdown. It was a wonder to witness great minds at work, and ancient art-forms being revived in a contemporary way.
I feel so grateful to be a part of this project and for working with such brilliant people between all the artists, crews, poets, musicians, filmmakers, producers, publishers and printmakers and everyone who helped along the way.
We are away from the cheers of the crowds, but this whisper is loud.
Thanks to Tomás Ó Murchú, Siobhra Quinlan, Rachel Holstead and Ealaín na Gaeltachta, Creative Ireland, all the crew of Other Voices and producers at South Wind Blows, Tor Cotton, Heiko Rolff, all the artists, musicians, writers, and everyone who helped.
A contribution from this project will go directly to the Simon Community and Pieta House. Thanks for supporting the arts."
Áine Ní Chíobháin.

"Tá an chontrárthacht idir nua agus sean, idir theicneolaíocht digiteach agus pheannaireacht na lámhscríbhinní ársa le haithint tríd an togra síos. Tugann ealaíontóirí aitheantas do ré an litirphreasa ar an bPreas Plaitín Heidelberg 1956 ach a ndeineann liricí comhaimseartha leathmhagadh faoi Instagram, innill chuardaigh agus lucht labhartha Twitter.
Ba phléisiúr ceart é oibriú ar an togra so. Chruthaigh sé dóchas go bhféadfaí nithe a dhéanamh le chéile fiú agus an dianghlasáil i bhfeidhm. Ba mhór an t-iontas é aigní móra a fheiscint i mbun oibre agus na foirmeacha ársa ealaíne á dtabhairt thar n-ais i slí chomhaimseartha.
Táim buíoch go bhfuilim páirteach sa togra so and deis agam oibriú le daoine breátha, na healaíontóirí ar fad, na criúnna, na filí, na ceoltóirí, lucht déanta scannán, léiritheoirí, foilsitheoirí, lucht déanta priontaí and gach duine a chabhraigh i leith na slí.
Tá na sluaite ag géimreach i gcéin ach is glórach an cogar anso.
Gabhtar buíochas le Tomás Ó Murchú, Siobhra Quinlan, Rachel Holstead agus Ealaín na Gaeltachta, Éire Ildánach agus leis an gcriú agus na léiritheoirí ar fad ag Other Voices agus South Wind Blows, Tor Cotton, Heiko Rolf, na healaíontóirí, ceoltóirí, scríobhnóirí ar fad agus gach éinne a chuir a láimh sa roinnt.
Cuirfear síntiús ón togra so díreach ar aghaidh go dtí Clann Shíomóin agus Pieta.
Go raibh maith agaibh as bhur dtacaíocht a thabhairt do na healaíona.
Táimid buíoch d'Ealaín na Gaeltachta, Éire Ildánach, An Chomhairle Ealaíon, Údarás na Gaeltachta agus South Wind Blows as tacaíocht airgeadais a chur ar fáil."
